Up For Debate

Submitted by Katie Schlieper on Fri, 04/06/2007 - 15:32

The Albany Times-Union throws down a challenge to the 2008 presidential contenders: let's have a big Town Hall discussion, the subject of which will be where each candidate stands on public financing of campaigns.  The paper makes its position clear: it's time for elections about issues, not how much you can raise, and all the huffing and puffing about the relative size of each candidate's war chest neglects the larger problem of money standing in for speech. They are looking for an answer to this problem: "Let's hear from all the contenders about where they stand on the money issue. And for those who won't take a stand, well, their silence will speak volumes." Yes, it will.
