Likening the Fair Elections Now Act to a campaign finance revolution, the Philadelphia Daily News heralds the work of Senators Richard Durbin (D-IL) and Arlen Specter (R-PA) in introducing a bill that represents a simultaneously far-reaching and practical solution to the money in politics woes of Congress. From the editorial: For too long a time, the temple of our democratic system, the U.S. Congress, has looked more like a wild and woolly commodities exchange than the place where legislation is seriously and deliberately considered. Though they'll never admit it, most if not all members of Congress trade votes, bills and legislative earmarks for campaign cash. Liberals and moderates have most often tried to reform the system (most likely because the current way of doing business puts them at a disadvantage) - and conservatives have mostly always stood in the way.  But, as the editorial notes, that paradigm may be changing. This bipartisan pay-to-play problem now has bipartisan support behind a solution. And thepdds on winning it have never been better.
