Wisconsin and Disclosure
Following this most recent round of elections, Wisconsin is considering stricter disclosure laws for certain issue ad expenditures - those not tied to a particular candidate or committee, but which mention a candidate's name in connection with an issue. There are further reform plans afoot to push for a public financing law. Federal law following the McCain-Feingold reforms in 2002 requires groups who do issue ads to file fundingdisclosure forms with the FEC, so these reforms in Wisconsin would bring them closer to the federal standard. Looking towards further progress on increasing the accountability in the campaign finance process, Governor Doyle appears to support a public financing proposal of some kind, but it's not clear yet whether it will follow the Clean Elections model.
