Lawrence, New Jersey Counciman Greg Puliti is on a mission to bring public financing of elections to his town. Puliti believes the existing regulations designed to counter "pay-to-play" politics don't go far enough to stem the tide of money. Read more about Puliti's proposal here at The Times. New Jersey is already discussing modifying and expanding the Clean Elections pilot project it has in place for statewide races. Currently, municipal full public financing systems are in place in Portland, Oregon and Albuquerque, New Mexico. New York City has also implemented an innovated four-to-one matching program designed to help less well-financed candidates remain competitive for public office.
