The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle covers the recent debate over reforming how New York's state Supreme Court justices are elected, citing constitutional and ethical hurdles that need to be addressed in reform proposals. Among the reforms up for consideration is public financing of judicial elections. Judicial public financing would reduce the likelihood that judges would hear cases from attorney's who had given them campaign contributions. It's been a very popular reform in North Carolina, and states like Washington are also considering it.
