Clean Elections Memory Lane

Submitted by Katie Schlieper on Mon, 11/06/2006 - 20:09

Susan Randall at Casa Grande Valley newspaper recaps the events leading up to Arizona's adoption of a Clean Elections system in 1998, including a series of money in politics scandals prompting citizens to rally around a system which has only grow in popularity since its initial adoption.  In major statewide races this year, including the gubernatorial contest, both democrats and republicans are running Clean - all in all, ninety-six Arizona candidates are taking the opportunity to seek elected office without having to collect large contributions from special interests, or spend much of their campaign time on the phone, dialing for dollars.
