Portland, OR: Voter Owned Elections Foes May Not Qualify Repeal for Ballot
Yesterday, a second count of signatures collected by opponents of Portland, Oregon’s system of full public financing for citywide races did not show enough valid signatures to qualify the repeal measure for the May ballot.
Repeal supporters may challenge details of the count before the county elections division certifies the count on Thursday.
Together, the Portland Business Alliance, Qwest, PGE, Comcast, and the Oregon Restaurant Association and others have spent nearly $350,000 to put their repeal initiative on the ballot, reported Oregon Public Radio.
A first count of signatures earlier this month also showed the Voter Owned Elections opponents did not have enough valid signatures.
