Campaign Finance/Fair ElectionsThis op-ed by Rick Siders talks about the need for more veterans in Congress. "The cost of running for office may be one barrier. In my home district in Tennessee, Rep. Stephen Fincher spent more than $3 million in his most recent race, in 2010, and this is a bargain in some congressional districts.

Clean Elections take a hit, by Renee Loth
http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2011/07/09/clean_elections_take_a_hit/
A good, though somewhat pessimistic, piece in the Globe by Renee on the McComish decision. "The story of unchecked corporate power is everywhere. Somebody needs to write a new ending." -

Campaign Finance/Fair Elections"The FEC this week sent a letter demanding Crossroads GPS, the Karl Rove-backed nonprofit that pumped millions of dollars in anonymous donations into last year's Congressional campaigns, disclose its contributors. The request appears unlikely to be honored but it could signal an effort to tighten regulations on controversial third-party groups."

Jun14It's How the Game is Played
"Don't hate the players, hate the game." That old saying seems particularly appropriate for our current campaign finance system that seems to reward those who least deserve it. The Washington Post's Ezra Klein had a piece yesterday bemoaning how despite bringing our economy to the brink of collapse, being bailed out by the taxpayers, and getting protected in Congress, Wall Street continues to be the go-to spot for high-dollar campaign fundraising.
