Supercommittee Member Rob Portman Cancels Fundraisers
When asked about our demand that supercommittee members give up fundraising while they do their work, Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) told the Cincinnati Enquirer:
Members aren't going to have the time to be involved in (as many) fundraising events that they would have been. Personally, I've canceled a bunch of events.

On Thursday, Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) told a group of constituents, “I would say we have an absurd tax code that has so many ridiculous features that are there because special interests have carved them out. I’m all in favor of reforming it so we can get rid of those kinds of features.”

Supercommittee Member Max Baucus Cancels Fundraiser
Buried in an article on lobbyists and the Congressional “supercommittee” created to reduce the deficit is this nugget:
Senator Max Baucus, a Democratic committee member, had been due to attend a fund-raiser on October 4 hosted by the National Association of Realtors. But a spokeswoman said on Monday the event had been canceled.
