New Hampshire may well be on the road to Clean Elections public financing for their campaigns now that the Governor looks likely to sign into a law a bill creating a commission to study the feasibility of such a system.

New Hampshire Bill Moves Forward

Dolores "Granny D" Haddock, a pioneer in the fight to get big money out of politics celebrated her 98th birthday yesterday and got a birthday present in the form of her home state of New Hampshire passing a bill in its House of Representatives to create a commission to advise the legislature on creating a Clean Elections program in the state.

Walter Peterson, the former Republican governor of New Hampshire and Lou D'Allesandro, a Democratic state senator co-author this piece in the Concord Monitor in support of state House Bill 794 to create a full public financing option for elections for the offices of governor, state Senate and Executive Council: "Passing this voluntary public funding legislation here in New Hampshire would demonstrate our Legislature's commitment to strengthening the best qualities of government, fulfilling voters' desires for greater public accountability, fairness and openness in our political system."
