Darn. A bill to create a full public financing program in the Clean Elections model for statewide and legislative races in Missouri failed a vote in the state Senate today. The bill had been introduced by Sen. Jeff Smith (D) as an amendment to a bill removing campaign contribution limits in the state.

Michael Bersin at Show Me Progress, a blog focused on Missouri politics, writes about the point/counterpoint of recent bills introduced in the Missouri Senate. One, introduced by Sen. Jeff Smith, would bring Clean Elections public financing of campaigns to Missouri. Another, introduced by the Senate Majority Leader, would do away with campaign contribution limits.
