Goodnight Nursing Home Cash

When you talk about the ties between campaign contributions and public policy the most obvious players in the money game are interests like the oil industry, pharmaceutical companies, and big banks but what about the nursing home industry and their campaign contributions? Check out this letter in the Des Moines Register urging legislators to return campaign contributions from the nursing home industry, and support Clean Elections.

"Call it a donation, call it a bribe, but money in American politics is the grease that spins government's wheels and usually not for the benefit of people.We can blame politicians for taking money to buy their votes but it is the system itself that is corrupt." This is from Judith Simon's letter to the editor in today's Press & Sun-Bulletin in support of Clean Elections. It's a good one!

That's two letters this week in Indiana in support of Clean Elections! Julie Vaughn of Common Cause Indiana, in her letter to the Indianapolis Star wants Indiana to look at its lax campaign finance laws and embrace public financing at both the state and national levels. This was clearly the weekend to write about Clean Elections! Papers in Iowa, Alaska, and Tennessee featured positive letters or editorials in support of public financing of campaigns -- we're sooo trendy.
