Big donors--those giving $1,000 or more--still account for the bulk of money collected by frontrunner presidential candidates, according to an analysis hot off the press from the Campaign Finance Institute (CFI).

In her rounds on the Sunday shows this week Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) made a point of emphasizing her support for public financing of campaigns. Though she's gone on the record supporting such a program in the past, her recent debacle with donor/wanted felon Norman Hsu has perhaps prompted a more active level of support.

Newspapers across the country this week announced the end of Presidential public financing due to Sen. Hillary Clinton’s (D-NY) decision to forego it for her campaign for President. Well, it’s no wonder when the system hasn’t been updated since 1974 and the $150 million candidates are able to receive under the system is pocket change compared to what’s expected to be raised and spent by November 2008.
