I'm sorry to report that Alaska's Clean Elections ballot initiative did not pass yesterday -- in fact, on the primary ballot where both Sen. Ted Stevens (R) and Rep. Don Young (R) faced primary challenges none of the ballot initiatives got much love. But as they say, Rome wasn't built in a day. This is only the beginning of Alaska's fight for Clean Elections.

The race is on to get signatures to put a Clean Elections initiative on Alaska's ballot next year, with an Anchorage radio station hosting a signature-gathering party to raise awareness about the proposal, and talk about solutions to the corruption that is grabbing headlines left and right.

Public Campaign's President and CEO Nick Nyhart has this letter to the editor in today's New York Times, calling out Rep. Don Young (R-AK) for directing pork-barrel spending to enrich his biggest donors, and urging support for the Fair Elections Now Act in the Senate and Clean Money Clean Elections Act in the House to create a full public financing system for our legislators -- and with it, accountability to voters.
