Two Bills in Kansas

This a new development in Kansas.  The state Senate is being asked to consider two bills, one that removes all limits on campaign contributions and political giving and one that proposes a public financing option for candidates who agree to spending limits as a way of reducing the influence of special interest money.

Spitzer Takes to the Road

New York Governor Eliot Spitzer and the Republican-majority state legislature are battling over the latest slate of campaign finance reforms proposed by the Governor, who is traveling around the state to speak out against opposition to the changes he has laid out, and encourage the legislature to back new contribution limits.

Wisconsin Campaign Finance Laws Critiqued

The Brennan Center for Justice has released a report pointing to deficiences in Wisconsin's campaign finance law, and making a series of suggestions to improve them including developing a campaign donation matching fund program to aid candidates facing better-funded opponents, implementing stricter contributions limits for both individuals and PACs, and regulating issue advocacy advertisements more strictly.
