First, two important notes. We are happy to welcome a new ally in our fight to put elections back in the hands of voters--United Republic. Make sure to check out their site: http://unitedrepublic.org.
Second, a report we co-wrote with PICO National Network on the influence of private prisons is being released this week at PICO's National Clergy Gathering in New Orleans. Proud to work with them on this. The report is here: http://publicampaign.org/reports/unholyalliance.

On Tuesday, ThinkProgress reported how Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) flew off the handle and yelled at a constituent that, "Don't blame banks, and don't blame the marketplace for the mess we're in right now! I am tired of hearing that crap!" Well, we're tired of hearing politicians do the bidding of Wall Street. I am tired of hearing THAT crap. So, we launched a new site: http://iamtiredofhearingthatcrap.tumblr.com/. We were proud to stand hand-in-hand with our friends in the immigrant rights and labor communities last night to defeat Arizona Senate President Russell Pearce, the author of SB1070 and a leading opponent of the state's Clean Elections system. Here's Huffington Post on his loss: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/08/russell-pearce-recall-election-jerry-lewis_n_1083129.html. When you leave your voters behind, they're going to do the same to you.

One of the biggest opponents of Arizona's Clean Elections system faces a recall election today. While Russell Pearce became known nationally for his anti-immigrant positions (and that's why he's on the ballot), the recall election has focused on his corruption, special interest ties, Fiesta Bowl scandal, and opposition to Clean Elections. Public Campaign Action Fund's Campaign Money Watch spent $47,000 communicating with voters, solely with the corruption message (the largest independent expenditure in the race).

Happy Monday, everyone. Check out this story on Occupy Toledo. A 55 year old dialysis technician told a reporter, "We've got to reform the campaign finance laws so we can hold politicians accountable. The people who have all the money have all the power."
