We don't get Metro here in DC, but if you're a reader of the free daily newspaper in New York you may have seen this My View article by Thomas Keown in favor of Clean Elections, and the Fair Elections Now Act championed in the Senate by Sens. Dick Durbin and Arlen Specter. It's a quick, good read.

Public Campaign is part of a coalition that just released a report, "Breaking Free with Fair Elections," in support of the Fair Elections Now Act introduced by Senators Richard Durbin (D-IL) and Arlen Specter (R-PA). The Syracuse Post-Standard covers the release of the report, focusing on the contrast between campaign contributions from wealthy zip-codes, and those from less wealthy areas and the resulting distortion of the voices heard in Washington.

Reigning in Money in PA

Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell's is proposing a new round of contribution limits for state races saying " "Campaign spending is spiraling out of control, and the result is that those with big money are getting a larger and larger say in the outcome of our elections." According to this article in The Patriot-News, more than a few Pennsylvania lawmakers are eager to lessen the influence of money on elections.

Fair Elections Now Act Comes to Congress

Today marks a major milestone in the work to win full public financing of congressional elections. Senators Richard Durbin (D-IL) and Arlen Specter (R-PA) have announced their introduction of the Fair Elections Now Act to bring spending limits and full public financing to elections for Congress. Rep. John Tierney (D-MA) will lead up the companion bill, the Clean Money Clean Elections Act, in the House.
