Young People and Clean Elections

Submitted by Adam_Smith on Fri, 12/05/2008 - 15:52

The millennials, those of us who grew up in the 1990s and 2000s got a lot of attention in the 2008 election cycle. Yes we were excited about the 2008 election, but were we actually going to cast our ballot on Election Day?Well, we did—in record numbers. And in some states, millennials were not just volunteering for office, but were running for it. Public Campaign has released a new report highlighting young people that were elected in Arizona, Connecticut, and Maine using their state’s Clean Elections system.Too often young people don’t have the personal wealth or connections to money needed to run for office. With Clean Elections, though, young leaders in these three states are showing that it’s possible to get elected. Along with the report, Public Campaign released a video with interviews of some of these leaders talking about Clean Elections.
